This was a blog post I put together just after the party conferences in 2009. I posted it onto another blog, however, have transferred it here now.
“Dream not small dreams because they cannot change the world. Dream big dreams and then watch our country soar.” - Prime Minister; Gordon Brown.
I have been thinking over the past few days…
Having been at the Liberal Democrat’s Party Conference at the a fringe event and also the same event at the Labour Party’s Conference; my love for politics has grown, and also my passion for the Labour Party has developed.
There are more than two political parties, but I am thinking about the next general election and who is more likely to contest Labour’s place in power.
I still believe that the Conservative Party are not ready for government.
You can judge a leader on what they have done; and as many of you will mention Gordon Brown at this point… I believe he is a strong leader and is defiantly the best man to lead the Labour Party. You can only judge David Cameron on what he has done.
Who was it who said that we’ve got to sit the recession out? How can a belief like that from a political party be politics? If you were to ask me, that is a party and a opposition leader who do not understand what is happening or understand the economics of a world crisis.
I can see the Conservative party focusing directly on the up and coming election. What has happened to the policy? Why are they playing a points game and thriving on political gossip? The election will come and they will be found wanting.
Mayor Boris Johnson: does he understand London? A point raised by a friend of mine has also got my thinking, and I think they are correct in saying: “The capital’s mayor is ‘an interesting testament to what an actual Tory government could look like’.”
Some people ask me why I support the Labour Party.
The answer is simple. I do not want to live in a country where you have to be lucky to succeed.
If the Conservative Party get into power, I fear that this quote by Neil Kinnock will once again be relevant. The quote is: “If Margaret Thatcher wins on Thursday, I warn you; I warn you not to be young. I warn you not to be ordinary. I warn you not to fall ill. I warn you not to grow old”.
If David Cameron wins the election, I warn you…
