I am interested to know other members' opinion on the electoral performance of the SNP at the General Election. I have wrote on a few occasions how I find it diffucult to predict what outcome there will be at the election. The SNP have a target of gaining 20 seats at the UK general election a big increase from their current 6. I have no trouble in saying that this seems exceptionally optimistic and personally i don't think they will reach that.
However, the SNP could benefit from the increasingly likely outcome of a hung parliament or a tory government. The tory's still perform poorly at scottish elections. The tories are still generally an unpopular party north of the border. Therefore from that point of view the SNP would tip the balance of power and would have a very powerful position in that outcome. With the SNP sharing similar(centre-left) position as Labour people may see the SNP as a chance to ditch Labour whilst retaining their political views thus voting SNP
On the other hand, people realise that this is a contest between labour and the tories.
As I say the SNP is a hard one to forecast.
What do you think?
