I am a London born 19 year old student at Bristol University and am passionate about the Labour party and everything it should represent. My political heroes are Aneurin Bevan, Tony Benn and Ken Livingstone, all three of whom are great figureheads for a strong, left wing labour party putting socialism firmly as a priority and in doing so achieving a more equal and just society for the most vulnerable to live in.
Our party is going throigh difficult times at the moment, undoubtedly due to world economic forces but too, down to a need to compete with the Tory party for the votes of middle England and the approval of the Daily mail. We cannot lose sight of our aims and goals and the fundamental principles which formed our party. let this year as the NHS's 60th year, be a reminder of our socialist foundations and the need for our priorities to remain social welfare through the redistribution of wealth.
I hope, in the future, to become even more active in the Labour party with a view to a career in politics. As Nye Bevan said, "no amount of cajolery can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the tory party" and I feel the same as the great welshman.
