The most significant event of the year for Sleaford & North Hykeham CLP was Jim's contest of the single Lincolnshire County Council by election held within the constituency. Though coming third the share of the vote increased from 8% to 22%. The Lib Dem vote collapsed, polling only 45 (forty five) votes. Their candidate was well known, coming second in the last General Election.
We continue to hold regular branch and CLP meetings.
We promote a party market stall and publish a local elector's newsletter 'The Rose'.
Our CLP enthusiastically participated in the Re-founding Labour programme and the various consultations that are part of that process.
We held a Burn's Night supper, with guest speaker Ann Black of the NEC. Ann gave an interesting talk on successful lines of campaigning for smaller parties.
The CLP made submissions to Boundary Commission as an attempt to counter a gerrymandering proposal from the Tories for the Lincoln Borough constituency
One member volunteered to attempt activation of a women's group.
The CLP were only able to put up only candidate in the May local elections. The result was disappointing, but understandable. The exceptional growth of the district, through in-migration, negated the advantage of our local candidate.
The Chair of the CLP maintains a blog on Membersnet, (you are reading it). The blog collects occasional comments. Membersnet is not a satisfactory platform.
The Chair created a website on a free web platform, the cost of Labour Party's site being beyond the means of the CLP. The site generated no interest and was dismantled.
The CLP is in correspondence with the SPD in Duisburg, Germany.
Individual members made personal visits to the Occupy London camp at St Paul's.
